Rider Review: 2001 Kawasaki Eliminator 125

Submitted by: Bike Dude

Ok, I decided to start riding for the first time at the age of 42. I didn't want anything too big or I knew I'd be afraid to take it out, but I didn;t want something too small.

I got a Kaw 125 Elimninator and, let me tell you, new they are BOOORING! The top speed recommended by Kaw for the first 500 miles is 29 MPH, then 39 MPH for the next 500. For me this was doable for most it won't be.

The Good:

It kinda fits my frame and im 200 lbs, 6'2". Now that I've gotten through the first 700 miles or so, ir revs to 30 kinda sorta quickly, and cruises at 45 (I know, I'm still SUPPOSED to be maxing at 39!) It looks great, not at all like a 125, and that was important to me, as I didn't want it to look like a friggin minibike. Good gas mileage, big tank (4.2 gallons), comfy seat, great steering responsiveness. And it only cost me $2000!!!

The Bad:

Before I got to 4-500, it felt like it was going to explode going at 30-35 MPH. Those first 3 or 400 miles were pure hell. I wanted to go faster (and needed to for traffic) but couldn't. And it was really slow going up medium hills.

The Ugly:

It's been discontinued! Guess it didn't sell well.

Bottomline:

If you can buy one used, has been through breakin, and you are small and light, this would be a great starter. Otherwise, look at the 250's out there.
